Who We Are
The Cardinal Stritch Retreat House, a ministry supported by the generosity of the people of the Archdiocese of Chicago and its other benefactors, invites you to come away to pray. This invitation to pray is extended to you as you pass through our front door. Overhead is the inscription "Venite seorsum.” Come away by yourselves--come away to pray (Mark 6:31). This preserve of nature, comprising approximately 900 acres of forest and water, is the ideal setting for beholding the glory of God. Come away to a quiet place to pray. Venite seorsum.
The Cardinal Stritch Retreat House is a place to reflect, to pray and to rest for priests, bishops, deacons, men and women religious and all the Christian faithful. We provide the hospitality to assure your comfort and provide the quiet and peace necessary to hear God’s call.
We sponsor a variety of retreats: traditional preached retreats, silent and directed retreats, retreats for particular groups, and private retreats. A staff member is also available for spiritual direction. If you wish to schedule time to get away and pray for yourself or a group, please call us at (847) 566-6060, to make arrangements.
The Cardinal Stritch Retreat House is a center for spiritual renewal serving Bishops, Priests and Deacons, and all who might come to this center to strengthen their relationship with God through prayer, scholarship and reflection. The Cardinal Stritch Retreat House was originally founded to serve the Priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago, and this continues to be a primary group, but today the retreat house extends its service to all people of the Archdiocese of Chicago who would like to come for some days of prayer and interior renewal. The Retreat House also extends its hospitality to priests, deacons and lay people who serve the church from the outside the Archdiocese of Chicago, especially those from the Province of Illinois and those from Region VII, The Retreat House strives to serve all who are seeking to nurture their faith by coming to this center for spiritual renewal.
The Retreat House has ground level access with plenty of parking, elevator access to all floors, and a beautiful chapel. There is also a comfortable library and common room, a meeting room on the lower lever for up to 35 persons, and is WI-FI equipped. The chapel, dining room and all public meeting space is also air conditioned.

Our property is contiguous to that of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary and retreatants have access to Seminary grounds. The wildlife includes deer, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, and a host of other wildlife.
